Our Story

Portico-Kirby-madera-residential-property

Together, we can weather any storm.

Madera Residential began in 2008 when we purchased our first multifamily investment property, The Lakes at Madera in Baytown, Texas. We received more than just our name from this apartment community— we learned what we’re made of. Within months of the acquisition, tragedy struck twice, first with the landing of Hurricane Ike in September and again in October with the arrival of the financial crisis.

Our first property investment seemed destined for failure. But rather than going up in flames, we were forged by them. Our partners came together, buckled down, and allowed these events to shape our investment strategy and who we are today. Driven by our relationships with our residents and investors, we leaned into our core values, put people first, and came out on the other side more determined than ever before.

In 2010, we acquired our second multifamily property with the help of the same investors that first believed in us. Today, we’ve acquired more than 80 apartment complexes and 20,000 residential rental units across Dallas, Fort Worth, and Houston, TX. Through our dedication to people, we’ve grown Madera Residential from a single apartment complex to a thriving apartment investment and management company with a total value of over $2 billion — and we’re just getting started.

Our Approach

We take a people-first approach to multifamily investment.

Our multifamily property investment strategy is designed to build maximum value for each person involved in our properties, from our apartment residents to our property investors. Though our people-first approach requires more time, attention, and personal investment than a traditional fix-and-flip strategy, the effects it has on both the property’s resale value and the lives of those in our communities are more than worth it.

1

Be Selective

The first step in our people-first approach is to identify multifamily investment opportunities where we can create the most value and ROI for apartment investors, management teams, and apartment residents. We examine more than 250 properties per year but only choose to pursue 5% on average. This allows us to give each apartment investment the attention it needs to thrive.

2

Focus on Residents

We choose to build value from the bottom up by following and investment strategy that focuses on residents’ needs first. We have found that by leveraging aesthetic renovations, cutting-edge technology integrations, and cultural development initiatives, we’re able to create substantial value for our investors, management teams, and residents simultaneously.

3

Embrace Innovation

From the beginning, we knew that creating value for our properties would mean integrating emerging technologies at every turn. That’s why we started Quext, our technology subsidiary. Through Quext, we develop cutting-edge apartment technology that streamlines operational efficiencies, improves resident experience, and boosts property value for our investors.

Our Mission

We are driven to invest differently.

We developed our investment strategy by leaning into our core values of Christ, community, and constant improvement. For us, taking a people-first approach is more than a simple spin on investment style — it’s at the core of who we are. Put simply, we believe in doing the right thing, and that means caring about people.

Our People

Meet our team.

Our executive team had a vision for Madera Residential — to create a company that treats apartment investing differently. By embracing that vision, we target opportunities that matter, that enable us to build substantial value, and that make an honest difference in the community. Thanks to the experience, expertise, and guidance of our leadership, we continue to see just how effective that approach to property investing can be.

Brady Collier

Investor

Madera Residential is different because they have taken a relational approach to investing over a really long period of time. One aspect of this approach is in their acquisitions. Charlie has developed amazing relationships with brokers around the state, so when they find a deal, Charlie is their first call. They trust him because if he puts in under contract, he is going to close it, and then after he re-positions the apartment, he list it with the same broker for sale. So all the brokers are clamoring to do deals with Madera, which gives them the first look at the great deals in the major markets of Texas. This is just one aspect of their relational approach…after almost 15 years of investing with them, I could say the same thing about their investor relationships, management, and operations. They are a people-first company.
